Bag-in-Box Coffee FAQ
Everything you need to know about ordering, storing, connecting, cleaning, and troubleshooting Christopher Bean Coffee Bag-in-Box concentrate. Whether you are using a Newco LCD, BUNN LCA, office coffee machine, café dispenser, or foodservice setup, this guide helps you get the best first pour and keep the coffee flowing smoothly.
Bag-in-Box Coffee Basics
What is Bag-in-Box coffee concentrate?
Bag-in-Box, often called BIB, is a sealed box-and-bag package filled with liquid coffee concentrate. It connects directly to a compatible coffee dispenser, which mixes the concentrate with hot water to serve fresh coffee by the cup, carafe, or larger container.
Who is BIB coffee best for?
BIB coffee is ideal for offices, cafés, restaurants, convenience stores, hotels, healthcare, universities, catering, and any business that wants consistent coffee without grinding, brewing, dumping old pots, or managing messy batch brewing.
What are the main benefits of using BIB coffee?
The biggest benefits are consistency, speed, less waste, easier labor, cleaner operation, and simple reordering. Once the machine is dialed in, staff can serve coffee quickly without needing to brew a fresh pot every time.
Is BIB coffee the same as ready-to-drink coffee?
No. BIB coffee is concentrate. It is designed to be diluted by a compatible dispenser or recipe. Ready-to-drink coffee is already mixed and ready to drink from the bottle, can, or carton.
Can I use Christopher Bean BIB coffee for iced coffee or cocktails?
Yes. Many customers use BIB coffee for hot coffee, iced coffee, office coffee, foodservice, and coffee-based drinks. For iced coffee or cocktail use, follow the recommended dilution or recipe for the final drink you are making.
Machine Compatibility & Setup

Will Christopher Bean BIB coffee work with my machine?
Christopher Bean BIB coffee is designed for compatible liquid coffee dispensers, including many Newco LCD and BUNN LCA-style machines. Compatibility depends on the machine model, connector style, pump tubing, and programmed mix ratio. If you are unsure, send us a photo of the machine label and BIB connector before ordering.
Do Newco LCD and BUNN LCA machines use the same setup steps?
The basic idea is similar: connect the BIB, route the tubing correctly, prime the concentrate line, then test the first pour. The machine controls and connector locations are different, so use the correct setup guide for your machine.
Which setup guide should I use?
Use the Newco LCD setup guide if your machine is a Newco LCD or LCD-2 liquid coffee dispenser. Use the BUNN LCA setup guide if your machine is a BUNN LCA, LCA-2, LCA-2 LP, LCA-2 PC, or similar BUNN liquid coffee dispenser.
Newco LCD Guide: Box placement, connector attachment, tubing path.
BUNN LCA Guide: Bag placement, left/right adapter, tubing route.
How do I know what connector I have?
Look at the fitting on the end of the machine’s product line and the fitment on your BIB box. Some machines use Scholle-style connectors, but versions can vary. The easiest way to confirm is to send us a clear photo of the connector and the machine model label.
What if my BIB connector does not fit my machine?
Do not force it. Stop and contact us with a photo of the connector, the machine model, and the BIB fitment. Forcing the wrong connector can damage the fitting or cause leaks.
How do I install a BIB in a Newco LCD machine?
Open the BIB box cutout, position the BIB fitment, remove the plastic insert, thread the machine connector onto the BIB fitment finger-tight only, place the BIB in the storage compartment, route the tubing without kinks, then prime the pump until a steady stream of product flows.
How do I install a BIB in a BUNN LCA machine?
Shake the BIB to mix the concentrate, pull the connector through the box opening, open the dispenser door, connect the left or right BIB adapter to the BIB, place the BIB upright with the connector facing forward, route the tubing without sharp bends, then prime the line until concentrate flows.
Do I need to prime the machine after installing a new BIB?
Yes. Prime the product line after connecting a new BIB so the pump and tubing fill with concentrate. This helps avoid weak first cups, air in the line, and refill/empty warnings that do not clear.
Should I discard the first coffee after installing a new BIB?
Yes, discard the first small amount after priming or cleaning. This helps clear air, sanitizer, rinse water, or weak mix from the line before serving customers.
What mix ratio should the machine be set to?
Use the recommended ratio for the specific Christopher Bean concentrate you purchased. Many liquid coffee dispensers can be adjusted by ratio, and BUNN LCA machines are commonly set up by entering the desired mix ratio. If the coffee tastes weak or strong, adjust carefully and contact us if the change needed is large.
What does it mean if the coffee tastes weak?
Weak coffee usually means the line was not fully primed, the ratio is set too high, the tubing is kinked, the connector is not seated correctly, the BIB is empty, or the machine needs calibration or cleaning.
What does it mean if the coffee tastes too strong?
Strong coffee usually means the ratio is set too low, the water flow is restricted, the machine needs calibration, or the recipe is not matched to the concentrate. Adjust slowly and test with a full cup before changing more settings.
Delivery, Storage & Handling
What happens after I place a BIB order?
You will receive an order confirmation, followed by shipping or delivery updates when your order is on the way. If this is your first BIB order, we recommend reviewing the setup guide before the coffee arrives so your machine is ready.
How is BIB coffee shipped?
BIB coffee is packed for business delivery and should be handled like a liquid food product. Exact carrier, transit time, and delivery method may vary by order size and location.
What should I do when my BIB order arrives?
Inspect the outer box for damage, make sure the correct product arrived, check the best-by date, and store the BIB in a cool, dry place until you are ready to install it. If there is visible leaking or shipping damage, take photos before opening and contact us.
How should I store unopened BIB coffee?
Store unopened BIB coffee in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, heat, chemicals, and strong odors. Do not crush, drop, or stack heavy items on top of the BIB.
Does BIB coffee need refrigeration?
Follow the storage instructions on the product label. Unopened shelf-stable BIB coffee can typically be stored at room temperature until the printed best-by date. Once opened or connected, follow the label guidance and your food-safety program.
How long does a BIB last after opening?
This depends on the product, machine environment, and usage. As a practical reorder planning rule, many customers aim to turn BIB coffee within 30 to 45 days. Use the date guidance on the product label as the final authority.
Can I lay the BIB on its side?
For storage, keep the BIB in the original box and avoid crushing or stressing the fitment. For machine use, follow the machine-specific guide. BUNN LCA machines typically place the BIB upright with the connector facing forward, while Newco LCD machines place the product in the storage compartment with tubing routed correctly.
Cleaning, Maintenance & Easy Clean
Reminder Graphic: "Clean after each BIB cycle or monthly minimum."
How often should I clean the BIB machine?
For Christopher Bean BIB customers, we recommend cleaning after each BIB cycle or at least monthly, whichever comes first. Also follow the machine manufacturer’s daily rinse, sanitizing, and maintenance instructions.
What is Easy Clean?
Easy Clean is Christopher Bean’s liquid coffee machine cleaner for BIB systems. It is designed to help flush coffee residue from compatible BIB lines and keep the dispenser tasting clean and working properly.
When should I use Easy Clean?
Use Easy Clean after each BIB cycle or at least monthly. It is also a smart step if the machine has been sitting, the coffee tastes off, the line looks dirty, or you are switching products.
Can Easy Clean be used with Newco and BUNN machines?
Easy Clean is intended for compatible BIB systems using the appropriate connector. Confirm your connector style before ordering. If you are unsure, send us a photo of the machine connector.
Do I still need to rinse if I use Easy Clean?
Yes. Cleaning products should be followed by a proper rinse according to the Easy Clean instructions and the machine manufacturer’s guidelines. Do not serve coffee until the line has been rinsed and the machine has been re-primed with coffee concentrate.
What happens if I do not clean the machine?
Old coffee residue can build up in tubing, connectors, and mixing chambers. That can cause off flavors, slow flow, weak or inconsistent coffee, and more service headaches. A little cleaning beats a machine tantrum during the morning rush.
Keep your flavor true and lines sterile.

How do I know when to reorder?
Reorder before the BIB is empty, especially if your business depends on daily coffee service. If your machine shows a refill light, your product is already low or empty, so it is better to keep backup inventory on hand.
Can I subscribe to BIB coffee?
Yes. Customers can use Subscribe & Save to save 10% on every purchase and reduce the chance of running out. This is especially helpful for offices, cafés, and foodservice accounts with predictable usage.
How many cups does one BIB make?
The number of cups depends on the BIB size, dispense ratio, and cup size. Simple estimate: concentrate ounces x total dilution parts divided by cup size. Example: a 96 oz BIB at 30:1 makes about 2,976 oz of finished coffee, or about 372 eight-ounce cups.
Can I order multiple flavors or regular and decaf?
Yes. Many two-product machines are set up for regular and decaf or two different coffee profiles. Make sure the left and right product sides are labeled correctly and programmed to the proper ratio.
Can I change flavors in the machine?
Yes, but clean and rinse the line first if you are switching products. This helps avoid flavor carryover and gives the new product a clean first pour.
Troubleshooting
Troubleshooting Image: Good tubing route vs kinked tubing illustration.
No coffee concentrate is flowing. What should I check?
Check that the BIB is not empty, the connector is fully seated, the tubing is not kinked, the correct side of the machine is connected, the machine is in Run/Normal mode after priming, and the pump has been primed until a steady stream flows.
The machine says refill, but I just installed a new BIB. What do I do?
Prime the concentrate line again. Some machines need the line fully filled with concentrate before the refill or empty warning clears. If it still does not clear, check the connector, tubing route, and whether the correct left or right product side is being used.
The connector is leaking. What should I do?
Stop using the machine, disconnect carefully, wipe the area clean, and inspect the connector and BIB fitment. Reconnect gently. Do not overtighten. If it continues leaking, send us photos of the connector, BIB fitment, and machine model.
There are air bubbles in the line. Is that normal?
A small amount of air can appear when a new BIB is installed. Prime the line until concentrate flows steadily. If air keeps returning, check for a loose connector, damaged fitment, kinked tubing, or an empty BIB.
The coffee tastes different than expected. What should I check?
Check the mix ratio, machine temperature, water filter, product side, expiration date, cleaning schedule, and whether the line was fully primed. If the machine was recently cleaned, discard the first small amount and make sure the line has been fully re-primed.
When should I contact Christopher Bean support?
Contact us if you are unsure about the connector, the machine will not prime, the coffee tastes very weak or very strong after setup, the BIB appears damaged, or the machine warning lights will not clear. Include your order number, machine model, connector photo, and a short video if possible.
When should I call a service technician instead of Christopher Bean?
Call a qualified service technician for electrical issues, plumbing issues, heating problems, pump calibration, internal machine repairs, persistent leaks inside the machine, or anything involving machine disassembly. Christopher Bean can help with coffee, BIB fitment, setup guidance, and product troubleshooting, but we are not a substitute for machine service.
