It goes to show that coffee can do more than just being your daily caffeine fix. Coffee works as a great beauty fix too!
All this time, a lot of beauty benefits have been hiding underneath your favorite morning cup of joe.
After drinking your coffee, you can keep the used coffee grounds and add them to your beauty regimen. Incorporating coffee into your beauty regimen can greatly benefit your skin, face, hair, and more. Why and how?
It’s a great exfoliant.
Coffee grounds–whether fresh or used–are of the perfect size and texture for exfoliating. More than that, coffee grounds are also rich in vitamin C and caffeic acid, an antioxidant that boosts collagen production, prevents premature aging, and fights skin inflammation.
Coffee grounds can be used for exfoliating your face, body, and scalp. They can get rid of dead skin on your face and body while removing hair product buildup on your scalp.
To use coffee grounds as an exfoliant, you can add in oils or honey. You can also create your own DIY exfoliating soap by mixing glycerin, essential oils, and coffee grounds.
It minimizes cellulite.
The caffeine content in coffee is known to promote better blood flow which helps reduce the appearance of skin imperfections such as cellulite, varicose veins, stretch marks, and age spots. Caffeine draws fluid away from the fat cells in cellulite and shrinks them.
To target visible cellulite and other similar skin imperfections, you just need to create a thick paste made from equal parts coffee grounds and coconut oil. Then, apply the paste in circular motions on the affected areas to stimulate blood flow. Do this 1 to 2 times weekly.
It repairs rough skin.
Because coffee grounds are great exfoliants, they can also smoothen out rough skin and make it silky smooth and fresher-looking. Rubbing coffee grounds into your skin–especially extra-dry and rough areas like your knees, and elbows–helps you achieve smoother skin.
A coffee scrub can also fix even the roughest skin in your body aka your callused feet. Just make a foot scrub out of mixed ground coffee, coarse sea salt, cornmeal, olive oil, and peppermint oil. Let the paste sit on your feet and rinse off with warm water after 10 minutes.
It brightens the skin.
A facial scrub made out of coffee grounds can help brighten your skin by removing dead skin cells and unclogging your pores. The caffeine in coffee which promotes and stimulates healthier blood circulation also contributes to a more radiant, glowing skin and complexion.
To thoroughly remove toxins from your skin and deep clean your pores, mix coffee grounds with another powerful ingredient – olive oil. Gently massage the paste onto your face. After letting the paste sit on your face for at least 30 seconds, remove it with a wet washcloth.
It de-puffs tired eyes.
Dark and puffy under-eye circles are often caused by lack of sleep, genetics, fluid retention, or allergies. And, the secret to de-puffing and lightening them lies in caffeine. In fact, most store-bought eye creams contain caffeine. It is because caffeine removes water from puffy eye bags and constricts the blood vessels to reveal better-looking under-eye circles.
Coffee grounds aren’t only great in de-puffing puffy under-eye circles, they can reduce the puffiness of your just-woke-up face in the morning as well. For easier application, make coffee ice cubes in advance. Then, take one cube out and use when the need arises.
It’s good for your hair.
Aside from removing hair product buildup on the scalp, coffee grounds are also effective in making your locks healthier and shinier. The acidity of coffee smoothens out the hair cuticles while making your locks extra shiny. Caffeine also helps stimulate hair growth. And, if you’re lucky to have dark-colored hair, coffee grounds can add depth and tint to your hair color.
To incorporate coffee into your hair care routine, just mix in coffee grounds with your shampoo or hair conditioner. Then, allow your DIY caffeine shampoo to sit on your scalp and locks for at least a few minutes before rinsing. Over time, you’ll reap the full benefits.
