Peru Las Damas de San Ignacio

Las Damas de San Ignacio – "The Women of San Ignacio" – is a remarkable coffee lot produced by the women of the Cooperative Agraria Frontera San Ignacio (COOPAFSI) in Northern Peru. Founded in 1969, COOPAFSI was established with the mission to uplift the livelihoods of coffee producers and their families in the region. What began with just ten producers has now grown to a thriving community of over 360 members.

In 2016, a dedicated group of women producers and board members within the co-op came together to form a special sub-committee. This initiative, Las Damas de San Ignacio, allowed them to create a distinct brand and develop unique cup profiles for their coffee lots, showcasing their hard work and passion.

Beyond coffee production, the women of Las Damas have been actively involved in various community projects. They’ve participated in educational initiatives such as computer and communication courses, started sewing clubs, and even sell local produce at farmer’s markets. On their farms, they run programs designed to enhance both coffee quality and production. Additionally, the women manage a loan distribution system within the co-op, helping members fund improvements to their operations and access healthcare for their families.
